With the cooperation of The French Embassy in Jordan, the
Department of French Language and Literature hosted the "Francophonie"
Week, which included a series of ceremonies and activities held under the patronage of the
Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Professor Turki Bani-Khaled, and Mrs
Hind Melkawi, representative of Campus France in Jordan. The celebrations
commenced with a screening of French films on three consecutive days. This was
followed by a writing workshop conducted by Dr. Isabelle Bernard at the French
Corner. Dr. Bernard also arranged a literary meeting with Kuwaiti author Taleb Rifae,
who has had three of his books translated into French. The celebrations concluded
with staged performances and concerts, organised by students from the Department
of French Language and Literature and coordinated by Lecturer Areej Nijem. It
is worthy to note that celebrating the "Francophonie" Week has become a tradition
at the University of Jordan, with the aim of introducing the French and "Francophonie" language and culture, as well as enhancing communication amongst different
nations and cultures in the world.
