DELL's PhD students discuss Shakespeare's adaptations with Queen Mary's students via MS Teams


A number of PhD students from The Department of English Language and Literature (DELL) discussed on 9/2/2021 with a group of students from QUEEN MARY/University of London via Microsoft Teams Arab British playwright Sulayman Al Bassam's Richard III:An Arab Tragedy. The webinar, supervised by Prof. Yousef Abu Amrieh and Dr. Penelope Woods, has focussed on Al Bassam's adaptation of Shakespeare's play Richard III in a contemporary Arab context. Students have also exchanged ideas on cross-cultural literary encounterss, the reception of the performance by British audience and the employment of Arabic/English as a medium of expression in diasporic literature in general. The webinar continued for two hours with and examined in-depth Al Bassam's aesthetic representation of Shakespeare's play.
