“American” Literature
in the Twentieth Century is the last of a series of three courses that discuss
American literature. This course focuses on “American” literature in the
twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, exposing students to a variety of
skills and strategies that will enable them to read the selections effectively
and critically. It also introduces them to the main historical events that have
shaped this era. It further exposes them to such schools of thought as Realism,
Naturalism, Modernism, and Postmodernism.
