Master in English Literature / Program Overview

Ø Background to the Program and Subject Area:

The programme promotes students' knowledge in English literature. In particular, it focuses on the following subjects: Novel, Drama, Criticism, Literary theory, and Methods of research in Literature. After graduation, graduates may find many job opportunities in Teaching, Media, Tourism, Banks and Companies and Translation.
 
Ø Vision Statements of the Program:
The MA in English Literature programme aims to help students gain a more confident critical voice and advanced analytical and research skills. The programme considers the ways in which different kinds of narrative work together with their cultural significance. 
Ø Mission Statements of the Program:
The mission of the MA programme in English Literature is to inspire students to acquire and practice critical thinking, capability to explore the historical and cultural significance of the literary works they study, and produce an original thesis and researchable project. The programme's aim is to help students further their careers whether in academia or professional fields.
Ø Program Aims:

Offering courses which provide breadth and depth in subject-matter within the fields of English literature.

Maintaining and developing a quality education in English Literature that enables students to attain the highest level of professional and personal development.

Ensuring that students acquire ample understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.

Responding through the graduate programs to the needs of the public and private sectors by equipping students with knowledge, together with the practical and general transferable skills which enable them to play a leading and effective role as professional English teachers, translators, press and media personnel, tour guides, government civil servants, private sector employees, etc.

Preparing students to pursue their PhD education in different fields of knowledge within the humanities and social sciences.

Exposing students to the impact of cross-cultural exchange on both national and global levels.

Enabling faculty members to develop teaching materials and programs which cover agreed course objectives, whilst allowing them the academic freedom to decide on the appropriate means to achieve these objectives.
