Program Specifications

French and English double major program / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

At the successful completion of the Bachelor Program in French and English Languages the student should be able to:

1-    Analyze and explain conventional narrative and descriptive texts, spoken and written, related to describing people, places, and things.

 

2-    Develop his/her French and English language skills and engage effectively in communicative tasks and activities in a wide range of academic and non-academic contexts.

 

3-  Translate professionally from French into English and vice versa and employ all translation skills and theories on texts to be translated.

 

4-Analyze, discuss, and critique the grammatical system and the function of natural human language in French and English languages, and develop his/her abilities in phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, discourse analysis, and pragmatics.

 

5-Analyze, discuss, and critique linguistic and cultural features of French and English languages for the purposes of teaching French and English as a foreign language in a wide range of contexts.

 

6-Analyze and discuss texts written in French and English and effectively compare them linguistically, historically and culturally.

 

7- Identify scientific research principles and use higher order thinking skills, critical and creative thinking in analyzing and observing issues related to the knowledge and skills of the French and English languages and literature.

 

8-Develop his/her skills and abilities to work in different fields using French and English languages, such as in the field of education, tourism, translation, management, radio, press, television, or in the diplomatic sector.

 

9-Show respect of cultural diversity, ethics, and professional behavior and appreciate different literary works from a variety of cultures.

 

10-Use information and communication technology to access global databases and information to develop his/her knowledge and skills, and to use in generating new knowledge in French and English literary and linguistic texts.

 

11-Work efficiently within a team and bears the responsibility arising from it as a specialist in the French and English languages and practices his/her work within the value system of society and its general ethics.
