Master in Language, Culture, and Communication / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of the Master Program in Language, Culture, and Communication, the student should be able to:

    1. Analyze language use in different cultural and social settings.
    2. Critique social functions of language and the roles they play in culture, including the analysis of literary texts, and how language and communication work to affect the socio-cultural world.
    3. Critically evaluate and debate conflicts within diverse social settings, with particular focus on how language variation, including social and regional dialects, influences and reflects social dynamics.
    4. Analyze the role of language in everyday interactions, including its use in literary texts, and the values associated with ways of speaking and their social, cultural, and personal consequences.
    5.  Critically assess contemporary issues in language policy while exemplifying the ability to take a public and professional role in addressing these issues.
    6. Apply information and communication technology skills to access databases and international information in the field of specialization so as to develop knowledge and skills and to generate new knowledge.
    7. Critically engage with the community set of values and ethics.
    8. Utilize scientific research methodologies, higher-order thinking skills, critical thinking, and creativity in analyzing and observing issues related to language.
    9. Critically evaluate research in the discipline, producing theses or reports to a professional standard, equivalent in quality to publishable papers.
