The Chinese Language Division at the Faculty of Languages at the University of Jordan, under the supervision of Dr. Yousef Khataybeh, hosted tourism expert Abdelhakim Al-Balbisi on Wednesday, 10-12-2025, to deliver a specialized lecture titled “The Role of Translation in Tourism Attraction.” The event was attended by students enrolled in the tourism course.
During the lecture, Al-Balbisi discussed the pivotal role that translation plays in enhancing tourism activity, enriching visitors’ knowledge, and presenting clear and appealing information about tourist sites in Jordan. He also emphasized the importance of language skills—particularly the Chinese language—in improving tourism services and enabling effective communication with visitors from various countries and cultures.
Al-Balbisi noted that translation serves as an effective bridge for understanding customs, traditions, and history, contributing to greater cultural understanding among nations. This, he explained, positively impacts the tourism sector and enhances Jordan’s cultural standing.
At the end of the session, Dr. Yousef Khataybeh led an open discussion between the students and the expert, during which questions were raised about the future of tourism translation and the importance of developing language skills to enter the tourism job market.
