Department of Asian Languages at the School of Foreign Languages at the University of Jordan participates in the celebration of the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival.

Under the patronage of the Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, His Excellency Mr. Liu Zeng Xian, and His Excellency Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Chinese Embassy held a celebration on the occasion of the Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival at the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Center on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Dr. Nahed Emaish, the Head of the Department of Asian Languages, Dr. Bagdagul Mussa, and the faculty members of the Chinese Language Section at the University of Jordan. In addition to a number of the Chinese community members that are residing in Jordan and students of the Chinese Language Section at the University of Jordan and various parts of the Kingdom.

Students of the Chinese Section  presented paintings of Chinese heritage during the ceremony, along with singing, folk dances, and poetry in Chinese, as well as a display of traditional Chinese and Arabic costumes. Student Ghaith Salem spoke on behalf of the students taking part in the celebration.

Chinese communities all across the world observe Chinese New Year on the day that is also known as Spring Festival. With success and wealth in mind for the New Year, the celebrations kicked off with a farewell to the previous year. Beginning with the appearance of the second new moon following the winter solstice, the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year (December 21).
